Hartalika Teej

Hartalika Teej Vrat is a sacred Hindu fast observed by women, especially in North India, to seek marital bliss and the blessings of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. Celebrated in the month of Bhadrapada (August–September), it marks the day Parvati reunited with Shiva after deep penance. Women observe a strict nirjala vrat (without food or water) and offer prayers for the well-being, longevity, and prosperity of their husbands. The festival is marked by vibrant rituals, traditional attire, applying mehendi, singing devotional songs, and group worship. It is believed that sincere observance of this vrat ensures a happy married life.

Teej Vrat is a Hindu festival that celebrates the bond between Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, and is observed primarily by married women in North India. The festival typically falls in the month of Bhadrapada (August/September) and is celebrated on the third day after the full moon.During the Teej Vrat, women observe a fast (vrat) from sunrise to moonrise, during which they do not eat or drink anything. They also perform puja (worship) to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, and offer prayers for the well-being, prosperity and longevity of their husband.Women dress in traditional attire, apply henna on their hands, and exchange gifts and sweets with each other. They also participate in cultural activities such as singing and dancing.It is believed that by observing the fast and performing the puja, women will be blessed with a happy and prosperous married life.It is also believed that the festival celebrates the reunion of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, as it is said that on this day, Parvati was reunited with Lord Shiva after a long separation.

This Gauri puja is all about worshipping Goddess Parvati. It falls during the fourth or fifth day of Ganesh Chaturthi. The good traits of one’s character are brought to light. This is a form of worship of Goddess Durga, performed especially during the Ganpati Utsav in Maharashtra. This puja is performed with Suhaag Samagri (materials needed in marriages). Married women do this in order to pray for the long life of their better half, adolescent girls perform this puja to get a desired partner and this puja is also conducted to fulfil wishes of people.
